How Selection Committee Performs The DBMS Selection ?

The Selection Committee comprises of people from the various departments, the top management and  outside experts. The Selection Committee performs the task of choosing a package for the company.They provide their own experiences, skills and processes to address the three important areas- usability, performance and stability.
Once the committee has evaluated all the tools that have cleared the pre-evaluation criteria, listen to the vendor presentations and demos and have got the pending issues cleared, a decision is reached- on  which DBMS package to buy.
Once the committee has reached a decision on a product, it is good to visit a few companies that have installed the particular product and see it in action. By visiting 4 - 5 installations should give the committee a good idea about the product. If the committee members feel  that their decision is right, then the company can proceed with the purchasing and implementation. But if anybody  doesn't feel that the product is not up to the expected standard, then the committee should sit and discuss and do the analysis again. So the DBMS that has got the maximum point rating system will be the best suited for the company. This decision might save the company from the potential disaster.
